The future of recycling
RVMs facilitate the efficient management and recycling of single-use plastic and glass bottles as well as aluminium cans in accordance with the new deposit return scheme. Soon to be launched in Scotland, DRS is a government-backed project to help alleviate the UK’s litter plight, conserve natural resources, reduce carbon emissions and protect the ecosystem.
Branding and marketing opportunity
All RVM models can be fully wrapped in the retailers’ branding, alternatively, this prime advertising space can be sold on to a sponsor, providing an additional revenue stream for the site. Likewise, the high-definition digital screen may be used to boost shop purchases, upsell premium grades, display customer information or promote services such as the car wash. The media content is simple to upload and can be deployed across an entire network simultaneously if required. This feature makes it an attractive proposition for franchise partners to advertise their presence at the fuel station and reinforce the alliance.
Recycling for rewards
All single-use drinks containers deposited into the RVM are scanned and the information contained within the barcode is validated and recorded, before the item is accepted, compacted and dropped into the storage unit. The machine will then print out a 20p voucher for the customer to collect their refund from the retailer. Multiple deposits are processed seamlessly, subject to the bottles and cans being fed into the RVM one at a time; the customer will subsequently receive 20p per item.
All refunds issued by the retailer can be reclaimed through the government incentive scheme. Furthermore, to cover administration costs, there will be a small handling charge paid to the retailer for every recycled bottle or can.
Smartphone app
The Trovr smartphone app offers an alternative method for customers to reclaim the reward for recycling their waste. Users are rewarded for each recycled item with one point collected on the app, which can then be redeemed against a multitude of products including clothing and groceries. The app is a cashless, verifiable and fraud-resistant solution that will benefit both retailers and their shoppers.
