Webinar: Gain an insight into BESS – a key technology in the energy system of the future

As the energy system becomes increasingly electrified and the share of renewable energy grows, energy storage is becoming an increasingly important part of the overall energy infrastructure.

With the acquisition of NRGreen By 2025, TSG will have strengthened its capabilities in Denmark in both solar energy and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). NRGreen is a Danish specialist in solar power systems and energy storage for the commercial market, and the acquisition is a strategic step towards TSG’s ambition to provide more integrated energy solutions to businesses in the Nordic region.

As part of this initiative, NRGreen is inviting you to webinar on 24 March with a focus on BESS in practice.

What is BESS – and why is it relevant?

BESS stands for Battery Energy Storage System and refers to battery installations that can store electricity and release it again when needed.

In practice, a battery system acts as a flexible energy resource. It can store electricity when generation is high or prices are low, and supply energy when demand rises. At the same time, batteries can contribute to the stability of the electricity grid and help businesses manage fluctuations in energy prices and peak demand.

In an energy system with an ever-increasing share of solar and wind power, this flexibility is becoming increasingly important. Batteries can respond quickly and are used to optimise energy consumption, provide flexibility to the electricity system and participate in energy markets through system services.

How does BESS create value?

For businesses, a BESS system can create value in several ways – both through energy management and through participation in energy markets.

For example, a battery system can:

  • store surplus electricity when production is high
  • supply energy when demand rises
  • contribute to the stability and reliability of the electricity grid
  • to generate attractive revenue through system services and energy trading in a rapidly evolving energy market

Interest in battery storage is growing rapidly these days, as energy markets evolve and the need for flexibility in the electricity system increases.

For businesses with energy-intensive operations – and for operators of mobility sites, where electrification and charging infrastructure play a greater role – energy storage can also be a way of managing rising power demand, limited grid capacity and greater variation in energy consumption.

This is where BESS can help to stabilise energy consumption on site and create new opportunities in the energy market.

Webinar: BESS in practice

Tuesday 24 March, 11.00–11.45 am NRGreen is hosting a free webinar on BESS in practice.

Here, experts from NRGreen, together with the energy trader Reel, will provide an overview of both the technical and financial aspects of battery systems – including investment levels, operating conditions and revenue opportunities through energy trading and system services.

Among other things, the webinar provides insights into:

  • what BESS is, and why the technology is developing rapidly
  • what a business case typically looks like
  • how batteries can generate revenue in energy markets
  • the difference between stand-alone battery systems and solutions integrated with solar panels
  • practical matters such as mains connection, operation and servicing

The aim is to provide businesses with a better basis for assessing whether energy storage could be a relevant part of their energy strategy.

Part of TSG’s expanded energy platform

The integration of solar energy and energy storage is a natural extension of TSG’s energy platform in Denmark.

Whilst TSG has historically had strong expertise in mobility and energy infrastructure, NRGreen brings specialist knowledge in renewable energy generation and energy storage. Together, this enables us to offer solutions that take a holistic view of energy generation, storage and consumption.

The webinar on 24 March will provide an insight into these developments – and into the role that battery storage can play in the energy system of the future.
