Fiat
The Fiat Group (Automobile Research & Development P.D. Services) has selected the TSG for its sites in Balocco, Italy. The high-speed Q110 fuel dispensers and DiaLOG fuel management systems were installed at the private filling station situated beside Fiat’s famous test track in Balocco (Vercelli). Tokheim Italy project-managed the completion of the new site, including the installation of Tokheim commercial dispensers, fuel management systems, tank gauges and probes, and carried out all installation work on site.
Balocco is the Fiat Group’s main test centre. The Circuito di Balocco test track was built in the early 1960s by Alfa Romeo to test new cars, prototypes and racing cars. The track covers an area of over 500 hectares and features more than 80 kilometres of different types of test track.
More than 20,000 vehicles use the test track each year, clocking up a total of more than 9,000,000 km. The test track features a full F1 racing circuit for high-speed testing. Vehicles using the facility include the famous brands Ferrari, Abarth, Maserati and, of course, Fiat’s own range of vehicles.
Fiat were looking for a system to help reduce the time taken to authorise and refuel their drivers’ vehicles, and they also wanted a solution to help improve wetstock management on site. With 100 refuelling operations a day, they would encounter several errors that took time to identify and correct. This was reason enough for Fiat to start looking for a fuel management system that would actually work.

The Tokheim ProFleet’s fuel management system, DiaLOG, has helped streamline the refuelling process. More than 200 RFID tags have been issued to drivers to ensure a faster and more secure authorisation process. Fiat staff have received comprehensive training in using DiaLOG’s powerful reporting and analysis tools, which has helped improve fuel stock management, invoicing and the timing of deliveries to the busy site.
Description of the site installation
At the proving grounds there are two refuelling points, one for passenger cars and one for lorries. The passenger car facility comprises two lanes with two pumps, one DiaLOG, and offers a total of four refuelling points covering three different products. The facility for lorries comprises one pump, one DiaLOG unit and offers one refuelling point for diesel only. Both locations also feature a car wash facility.
