Deployment of EV chargers with payment terminal

TSG Belgium has supplied and installed EV chargers with payment terminals for Gabriëls, a fuelling and charging operator. The solution aligns with the latest AFIR regulations and offers customers a direct payment process, ensuring a simple and seamless experience.

Multi-energy forecourt solutions

Gabriëls has over 180 service stations across Flanders and Wallonia and is expanding its charging infrastructure to provide alternative energy options, including EV charging stations and traditional fuel dispensers.

The local TSG Charge team previously installed Alpitronic EV chargers at Gabriëls’ station in Duffel, a municipality in the Belgian province of Antwerp. Recently, our experts introduced TSG ChargePay, an innovative payment solution for EV charging.

ChargePay allows customers to pay for electricity in several ways, including debit and credit cards, as well as contactless options. It displays all charging costs before the session begins and complies with the latest European regulation: the Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR).

‘According to the new AFIR guidelines, which came into force on 13 April, all new public DC charging stations of 50kW or higher must accept debit or credit card payments. ChargePay meets these requirements perfectly,’ says Ignace Gabriëls, operator of Gabriëls’ fuel and charging stations.

Easy EV charging with payment terminal solutions

The TSG ChargePay terminal features a user-friendly interface that ensures a smooth experience for drivers. The solution also accepts discount vouchers and charge cards, increasing customer choice.

A single TSG ChargePay terminal can control multiple charging stations, providing an efficient and cost-saving solution. At the Duffel station, for example, two ChargePay terminals manage 3x 300kW chargers.

With the availability of multiple payment options, Gabriëls expects an increase in volume and turnover, as drivers usually use cards for other regular payments. ‘This way, anyone can charge at our station, not just visitors who have the right charging card,’ adds Ignace Gabriëls.

Expanding the EV charging network

Gabriëls is expanding its stations and equipping them with new charging bays. In Duffel, TSG has installed three Alpitronic 300kW fast chargers, suitable for six charging locations.

‘We currently operate 16 locations, focusing on cities and towns along high-traffic transit routes. We are seeing a clear shift towards all-electric vehicles, driven in part by increased incentives for companies. By 2026-2027, we anticipate that all new commercial vehicles, which account for more than 30% of all vehicles, will be all-electric. This will increase the demand for charging stations,’ explains Ignace Gabriëls.

Gabriëls is currently procuring new Alpitronic fast chargers, which will have a charging capacity of 400kW and speed up the charging process. ‘We are anticipating technological advances in vehicles so that charging stations will increasingly function as service stations. We strongly believe that in the foreseeable future, charging sessions will be as short as five minutes, just like traditional refuelling,’ he adds.

‘The future is now, and companies are already making the switch, so we must keep pace. Our goal is to expand to 40 to 50 charging stations in the short term, so you can effortlessly drive an electric car throughout Flanders,’ he concludes.

EPC EV charging solutions for forecourts

For Ignace Gabriëls, choosing TSG was logical decision. ‘We have been buying our pumps, pump controllers and payment terminals, which are connected to the Fuel POS for our forecourts, from TSG for years due to their extensive experience. More recently, we also had TSG supply and install our fast chargers,’ he says. ‘We have consistently found that TSG delivers efficient, high-quality work. Installing charging stations requires experience, and TSG’s staff really have that. Moreover, they can install three charging poles in a day, whereas others take a week.’

TSG has installed over 10,000 chargers in Europe and Africa, supporting a wide range of customers – from service stations to destination charging operators – to electrify their fleets. We often combine sustainable energy with the installation of solar panels for clean energy production. From EV chargers with payment terminals to traditional dispensers, we have dedicated teams with extensive expertise in EPC solutions for mobility.
