Across Europe, businesses are accelerating their energy transition to meet ambitious climate goals set by initiatives like the European Green Deal and the Net Zero Industry Act. This shift is not just about switching to cleaner energy sources; it requires a comprehensive approach that optimizes electricity, mobility, and energy management. However, rising energy costs, evolving regulations, and infrastructure constraints make this transition increasingly complex.
TSG simplifies this challenge by providing integrated solutions that help businesses generate, store, and use energy more efficiently. From solar-powered EV charging stations to advanced energy management platforms, we enable companies to reduce costs, secure their energy supply, and drive long-term sustainability.
Optimizing EV Charging with Solar Energy
One of the most immediate ways businesses can take control of their energy consumption is by producing their own electricity on-site. At logistics hubs, commercial centers, and mobility stations, TSG deploys solar-powered EV charging stations, integrating photovoltaic panels into canopies to maximize self-consumption of renewable energy.
For example, TSG has equipped over 70 TotalEnergies fast-charging forecourts and hubs across France and Africa with solar canopies ranging from 10 to 40kWp. These canopies not only provide shade and weather protection but also supply renewable electricity for charging infrastructure and site operations. Notable installations include the 29.5kWp solar canopy at Aire des Volcans d’Auvergne and a 28kWp system at the Aire de Ferrière – Bussy St Georges.
This approach delivers a dual benefit: it helps companies reduce their dependence on the grid while lowering their operational costs through on-site renewable production. By using solar energy to power EV chargers during the day, businesses gain greater energy autonomy and resilience. Any surplus electricity can be stored for later use or fed back into the grid, further improving efficiency and reducing exposure to fluctuating energy prices.
Yet, renewable energy production is inherently variable. That’s where energy storage comes into play.
Overcoming Grid Constraints with Battery Storage
Even with abundant solar production, many sites face infrastructure limitations—whether due to peak-hour demand, insufficient grid capacity, or regulatory constraints. To solve these challenges, TSG integrates battery storage systems and MV/LV substations in many charging stations.
These smart storage solutions act as a buffer, capturing excess energy during low-demand periods and redistributing it when needed. By integrating battery storage into EV charging hubs, businesses can smooth out energy fluctuations, avoid costly grid upgrades, and maintain a reliable power supply, even in areas with weak electrical infrastructure.
This is particularly critical in areas with grid limitations, such as a recent project for Atlante in Spain, where TSG installed four 300kWh battery energy storage systems at a fast-charging hub to compensate for low power availability on the local distribution network. Similarly, at Trieste Airport in Italy, a 3MWh storage system designed by TSG allows the airport to cover up to 80% of its energy needs through solar self-consumption.
Beyond just charging stations, this ability to store and strategically manage energy paves the way for a broader optimization of energy flows across a site.
Building Smarter, More Efficient Energy Ecosystems
Energy management is about more than just charging vehicles or producing and storing solar power, it’s about ensuring electricity is available where and when it’s needed most. Many businesses still operate with disconnected energy systems: separate EV chargers, solar panels, heating and cooling infrastructure, and facility operations. This fragmentation leads to inefficiencies, higher costs, and unnecessary reliance on external power sources.
TSG addresses this challenge by designing fully integrated energy ecosystems that unite solar generation, storage, EV charging, and thermal management into a single, intelligent system. Each project begins with an in-depth energy audit, analyzing electricity consumption, thermal needs, and mobility requirements. Based on these insights, we implement tailored solutions that optimize energy flows and enhance efficiency.
For instance, in Italy, TSG has supported TPER with an integrated system that includes two 2.000 kW MV transformers and multiple Kempower units to electrify bus depots, ensuring a resilient power supply for public transport.
In commercial and industrial sites, surplus solar energy can be stored and intelligently distributed between EV chargers, building operations, and temperature control systems. This not only reduces energy waste but also helps prevent overloads, ensuring seamless operations without unexpected costs.
To take this optimization even further, TSG offers digital intelligence solutions that actively manage and balance energy use across a site.
Smart Energy Management for Optimized Performance
To help businesses take full control of their energy consumption, TSG integrates advanced digital energy management solutions that dynamically balance energy flows across a site. These systems ensure that electricity from solar panels, battery storage, EV chargers, and building operations is used efficiently, preventing overloads and reducing energy costs.
TSG works with a range of market-leading technologies, selecting and implementing the most effective solutions based on client needs. Among these, we have developed TSG Protect, a digital hub designed to connect and optimize energy management tools. It enables dynamic load balancing, self-consumption optimization, and predictive maintenance, helping businesses anticipate energy demands and prevent downtime.
In the Netherlands, TSG deployed TSG Protect for a retail client with a limited 40kW grid connection. By combining three 50kWh Pixii BESS units with a 150kW fast charger, the system ensures continuous EV charging through intelligent energy flow control, even during demand peaks.
In addition to TSG Protect, we install and manage third-party platforms, ensuring that each client benefits from the most effective and tailored digital infrastructure.
Beyond energy flow optimization, TSG also supports businesses in deploying compliant EV charging payment solutions. Our ChargePay platform integrates with various payment systems, allowing for remote management, real-time transaction tracking, and customizable settings. Whether using our proprietary platforms or third-party solutions, our goal remains the same: to provide seamless and future-proof energy management.
