Project overview.

E-GAP, the Italian company pioneering Fleet-as-a-Service (FaaS) solutions, has launched one of Europe’s largest e-bus electrification projects. The FaaS model gives operators turnkey access to complete electric fleets—including vehicles, infrastructure, maintenance, and intelligent management—without upfront investment, removing economic and operational barriers. The initiative will convert over 250 buses in Rome’s eastern and western districts to battery-electric operation and develop high-capacity depots with high power charging stations, digital monitoring platforms, and long-term operational support, positioning Rome as a national benchmark for large-scale e-bus deployment.

The solution delivered by TSG.

As technical partner, TSG provided a complete high-power charging infrastructure across several depots, bringing to life the Italy’s first built around a Fleet-as-a-Service model. The project includes the installation of over 100 Kempower DC fast charging points, powered by 600 kW triple rack-style power cabinets and 200 kW single power cabinet.

This solution enables dynamic power management, intelligently allocating available power across multiple buses simultaneously according to real-time charging demand, optimizing charging by intelligently rerouting power, particularly during overnight operations.
To support the depot’s high-power requirements, CD Elettrica, part of the TSG Group, designed and commissioned medium-voltage transformation cabins with a power of 3.75 MW.

TSG also deployed a depot control and diagnostic platform, integrating charger and MV-cabin software for continuous real-time monitoring, and automated fault detection for direct escalation to TSG’s service desk via a dedicated ticketing system.

Supported by an eight-year maintenance contract, this solution ensures maximum reliability and efficiency across the entire e-bus charging infrastructure.

Results and Impact.

This project provides Rome with one of the most advanced electric bus charging ecosystems in Europe. Its modular, high-power architecture and intelligent dynamic power management enable the simultaneous fast charging of a large e-bus fleet, reducing operational constraints and optimizing total cost of ownership.
Real-time monitoring and predictive diagnostics reduce downtime – a critical factor for electric buses running on strict schedules. By unifying design, installation, digital management, and long-term servicing, TSG has delivered a scalable and future-proof framework that accelerates Rome’s electrification and sets a replicable standard for other cities.
