The project aimed to secure Gubra’s transition to 100% renewable electricity by developing a hybrid solar and battery park. The objective was to decarbonise operations, strengthen energy resilience and demonstrate how on-site renewable energy can support highly energy-dependent scientific environments without compromising operational reliability.
Hybrid solar and battery park enabling 100% renewable energy for biotech operations.
Project overview.
The solution delivered by TSG.
We, through our local Danish entity NRGreen, delivered a turnkey hybrid energy solution combining large-scale solar power generation with battery storage. The 2 MW solar and battery park was designed to fully cover Gubra’s electricity demand with locally produced renewable energy while increasing flexibility and resilience in relation to the power grid.
We managed the entire project lifecycle, including concept development, engineering, permitting, construction, installation and commissioning. The hybrid configuration allows energy produced during peak solar hours to be stored and optimally used when demand is highest, ensuring continuous supply for energy-critical laboratory operations.
Beyond energy production, the project integrates biodiversity initiatives such as wetland restoration, hedge planting and creation of natural habitats, demonstrating how renewable energy infrastructure can deliver both climate and nature-positive outcomes. The solution provides a scalable blueprint for future hybrid energy projects within industrial and life-science sectors.
Results and Impact.
The hybrid solar and battery park now supplies 100% renewable electricity to Gubra’s operations, significantly reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions. The project delivers an estimated annual production of approximately 1.95 GWh and reduces CO₂ emissions by around 306 tonnes per year.
By combining on-site generation with battery storage, Gubra has strengthened its energy independence and reduced exposure to market volatility, while ensuring uninterrupted power supply for critical research activities. In addition, the integration of biodiversity measures enhances the environmental value of the site and supports Gubra Green’s ambition to create measurable impact for both climate and nature.
