Project overview.

Greene King is a British pub and brewing company founded in 1799, based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. It is the country’s leading pub retailer and operates over 1,600 pubs, restaurants and hotels across England, Wales and Scotland.  The company also owns brands including Hungry Horse, Chef & Brewer, Flaming Grill and Farmhouse Inns.

Greene King wants to provide charging facilities at its establishments for the growing number of electric vehicle (EV) drivers. Appealing to EV owners seeking good food and drink while recharging their cars.  The charging bays will also attract EV drivers to stop mid-journey for refreshments and to top up their batteries, on the way to their final destination.

The solution delivered by TSG.

Greene King approached RAW Charging, the leading charge point operator in the hospitality sector. Once the scope of the project had been determined, RAW Charging turned to one of its IPC, EPC and EV installation partners, TSG UK,   to complete the installation on a large proportion of the pub car parks.

We assumed full responsibility for the installation project on 31 sites located right across the UK, deploying circa twenty experienced engineers to ensure the work was completed within a strict timeframe, and in compliance with all relevant safety standards and regulations.

We are now recognised as the UK’s first-choice engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, and is fully accredited as an independent connection provider (ICP) via UCPC (a TSG company).

The work at each installation included:

  • Initial site survey and risk assessment
  • Design
  • All civil works
  • Laying of cables
  • Installation of charge points
  • Rigorous testing to verify the integrity of the equipment
  • Commissioning

Results and Impact.

The first Greene King to be completed was the Swan Pub Restaurant in Bromham, Bedford, followed in quick succession by the remaining thirty sites. Most pubs opted for two or three dual electric charge points, except the Bridge Inn, Bristol and the Fieldhead Hotel in Leicester which elected to have 4 chargers/8 bays at each.

14 sites have already been commissioned and energised, with the outstanding sites to be completed in the coming months. Greene King is extremely pleased with the results and the additional business generated by the charge points.
