Francescon Photovoltaic Project – Large-Scale Solar for Sustainable Farming

Read the article

Project overview.

The project involved the construction of a ground-mounted photovoltaic plant with a total installed capacity of 8.3 MWp, connected to the medium-voltage grid. The system was developed on a single dedicated site and designed to integrate with the surrounding agricultural environment. The scope included engineering, installation, grid connection, and commissioning of the plant, delivered as a turnkey EPC solution.

The solution delivered by TSG.

SKY-NRG, a TSG Group company, delivered the project as an EPC contractor, covering the full project lifecycle from detailed design to final commissioning.

The solution included the installation of more than 13,000 bifacial photovoltaic modules rated at 630 W, mounted on single-axis tracking structures with a vertical configuration. The plant was equipped with 300 kW Huawei inverters, selected for high efficiency and integrated diagnostic and protection functions.

SKY-NRG delivered the complete medium-voltage electrical infrastructure, including MV substations for power reception, distribution, and transformation, as well as grid connection works. A centralized monitoring system was implemented to allow continuous performance supervision.

The installation also integrated meteorological sensors for wind, snow, and solar irradiation, along with automatic safety systems. Site security systems were provided, including perimeter fencing, intrusion detection, and video surveillance. All works were completed in compliance with applicable technical and safety regulations.

Results and Impact.

The photovoltaic plant has an estimated annual energy production of approximately 10.8 GWh, based on typical ground-mounted system performance in northern Italy. This output corresponds to an estimated annual avoidance of around 4,300 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, calculated using the average national electricity grid emission factor.

The project resulted in a fully operational renewable energy asset, combining energy generation with agricultural land use. The installed systems provide stable and predictable energy production, supported by monitoring, protection, and safety features designed to ensure reliable operation over time.
