As the operator of an extensive fuel retail network in Slovakia, ORLEN Unipetrol Slovakia has committed to a long-term sustainability strategy aimed at reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency across its service stations. The company identified rooftop photovoltaic systems as a key solution to support operational self-sufficiency and contribute to its objective of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Project overview.

The installation of solar systems at ORLEN Unipetrol Slovakia service stations forms part of a broader responsible business initiative. The company plans to equip eight service stations with rooftop photovoltaic systems by the end of 2025, supporting both environmental and operational objectives.

TSG Slovak Republic, a long-standing partner of ORLEN Unipetrol Slovakia for fuel dispensing technology and station equipment, was selected to deliver the photovoltaic installations. The first systems were installed at several locations, including stations in Bratislava (Lamač), Šurany, Senec and Šamorín, with additional installations planned in the near future.

We delivered a complete turnkey solution for the photovoltaic installations, covering all project phases from preparation to commissioning.

The scope of work included the preparation of project documentation, support with obtaining the required permits, supply of photovoltaic equipment and technologies, preparation of the electrical network, installation of rooftop solar panels, and system testing and commissioning.

The installed photovoltaic systems are designed to integrate seamlessly with existing service station infrastructure, ensuring reliable operation while supporting energy self-consumption. By producing electricity directly on site, the systems contribute to greater operational independence and improved energy management at the stations.

Results and Impact.

The photovoltaic installations support ORLEN Unipetrol Slovakia’s sustainability strategy by enabling on-site renewable energy generation and contributing to a reduction in CO₂ emissions. In addition to environmental benefits, the systems provide long-term economic value through energy cost savings and increased operational resilience.

The project demonstrates how solar energy solutions can be effectively integrated into fuel retail environments, delivering both sustainability and operational benefits while aligning with broader European decarbonisation objectives.
