In response to the climate emergency and the need to modernize public transport fleets, RATP is committed to the energy transition. Two new operational depots in Épône and Mantes-la-Jolie needed to be equipped to accommodate buses running on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), ensuring cleaner and more sustainable mobility.

Project overview.

This project forms part of the transport decarbonization strategy in the Île-de-France region. The objective was to design and deploy high-performance CNG infrastructure to supply the RATP bus depots in Épône and Mantes-la-Jolie. These installations support the development of environmentally friendly bus routes while meeting stringent safety standards and optimizing energy performance.

The solution delivered by TSG.

We delivered a complete, turnkey CNG infrastructure solution. The scope of work included:

  • Site studies and preparation
  • Installation of compressors, storage units, dryers, technical containers, and supervision systems
  • Deployment of underground and aboveground gas networks
  • Installation of fast-fill dispensers (Wayne Helix 6000) and slow-fill systems (DDG 3000)
  • Integration of safety systems, including fire protection and automated venting equipment
  • Training of operational and maintenance teams

We managed the entire project, supplied and installed the equipment, and implemented a maintenance service. In collaboration with NR CONSEIL, a CNG engineering specialist, we tailored the solutions to local requirements to ensure reliability and safety.

Results and Impact.

Both depots are now fully operational and ready to accommodate a fleet of CNG buses. The infrastructures were officially inaugurated in April 2024. marking a key milestone in the deployment of low-carbon public transport solutions in the Île-de-France region. The Mantes-la-Jolie depot features 150 slow-fill distribution points and 2 fast-fill dispensers, while the Épône site is equipped with 40 slow-fill and 1 fast-fill dispenser. These infrastructures significantly reduce CO₂ emissions and enhance the overall energy performance of the network. This project highlights our commitment to safe and sustainable mobility, contributing to the ecological transition of public transport in the Île-de-France region.

Installation details

RATP depot in Mantes-la-Jolie:

  • 114 DDG 3000 slow-fill dispensers
  • 36 gantry-mounted distribution points

Total: 150 slow-fill distribution points + 2 Wayne Helix 6000 fast-fill dispensers

RATP bus operational center in Épône:

  • 40 DDG 3000 slow-fill dispensers
  • 1 fast-fill dispenser (DDG 3000 type)
